The Connecticut Army National Guard is looking for a qualified Aircraft Flight Instructor for a full-time Title 32 Dual Status position at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Windsor Locks Connecticut. Who Can Apply

• Area 1 — All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the CTARNG
• Area 2 — All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and current traditional CTARNG members
• Area 3 — Individuals eligible for CTARNG membership. Membership must be completed within four months of selection

Key Responsibilities

• Planning and delivering flight training for rated pilots and instructor pilots following the Aircrew Training Manual
• Conducting refresher mission and continuation training in light fixed-wing aircraft or utility and observer helicopters
• Training and evaluating pilots in advanced instrument flight techniques during day and night operations across different terrain and weather conditions
• Evaluating instructor pilots on their teaching ability readiness and tactical qualifications
• Instructing pilots in advanced attack helicopters or heavy multi-engine transport helicopters when needed
• Developing lesson plans training texts evaluation guides and tactical procedures
• Designing flight routes and training exercise procedures that match unit mission goals
• Overseeing unit safety programs and conducting inspections following DoD Army National Guard Bureau and OSHA guidelines
• Advising commanders and staff officers on aviation safety issues and program updates
• Reviewing reports of alleged flying violations and taking appropriate corrective action

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory Requirements

Candidates must hold valid Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings. A Certificate of Completion for the Instructor Pilot course from an Army or ARNG flight school is required.

General Experience

A minimum of one year of hands-on experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level is needed. Candidates must also have at least 500 total flight hours.

Specialized Experience — 24 Months Required

• Experience in civilian or military aviation programs or Army National Guard Aviation Support Facilities
• Operating the CH-47F aircraft including mission planning and preparation
• Reviewing and analyzing mission tasking intelligence data and weather information
• Filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings
• Performing aircraft preflight inspections loading procedures and equipment checks
• Navigation in-flight refueling search and rescue and surveillance operations
• Training crew members in both basic and complex mission-specific tasks
• Developing operational plans and policies and advising unit commanders
• Strong knowledge of flight theory air navigation meteorology flying directives and mission tactics
• Managing flying explosive and ground safety programs following all regulations

Skills Required

• Ability to instruct and evaluate pilots in instrument flight techniques
• Skill in writing lesson plans and developing training and evaluation materials
• Ability to assess instructor pilots on teaching quality and tactical readiness
• Confidence flying in day and night conditions over varied terrain and in bad weather
• Ability to develop new training tactics and update program policies
• Skill in planning training exercises and mission operations with a focus on safety
• Experience running safety program requirements and inspections

Conditions of Employment

• Connecticut Army National Guard membership is mandatory
• Males born after December 31 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
• Federal employment suitability is determined through a background investigation
• A compatible military assignment must be obtained within one year of placement
• Wearing of the military uniform is mandatory
• Direct Deposit is required
• A Secret security clearance must be obtained and maintained within one year of appointment
• A valid state driver’s license is required
• A 2-year trial period applies to this position
• NGB courses at the National Guard Professional Education Center must be completed within 6 months of assignment

Education

There is no education substitute for specialized experience in this role. Military certifications and practical aviation experience are what matter most in the selection process.

• A Secret security clearance is required and must be obtained within one year if not already held
• Military grade at time of appointment is Warrant Officer WO1 through CW4
• Unit of assignment will be any aviation unit within the state of Connecticut
